bww's

Bee Dubya Dubs: Oldest son's birthday dinner request. We love that place.
Wing Order:
  • 18 Sweet BBQ
  • 12 Honey BBQ
  • 12 Garlic Parmesan
  • 6 Caribbean Jerk (for me!)
After polishing those off with a few boats of celery and a small order of chips, we came home to the Birthday Boy's dessert request: Daddy's Saffron Creme Brulee. Two words: happy tummies.

Look at the posts for the last couple days. That's what we had for dinner, again.

mostly-naked black bean tostada

I'm really running low on food. After dinner I went to this meeting and remembered I have TWO WHOLE CHICKENS in my fridge. TWO! I sure hope they haven't ran down the same road as the collards...

Back to tonight's dinner. While it look like simple fare, it was anything but: homemade tortillas and homemade refried black beans (used this recipe and this one and this one) topped with sour cream and taco sauce. After it was finished and I was running out the door to my meeting I realized I could have made rice to go with it. Beans and rice. How could I miss that? Oh well. The tortillas were quite delicious. One can not go wrong with homemade tortillas. The hubby asked if there was any meat. Not tonight, mi amor. Not tonight.

some green in my potato soup + biscuits

I had a recipe for collard greens. I started to make it when I discovered that collards can't live in a fridge for over a week without repercussions. That option out the window, I decided to make potato soup with the surviving five collard green leaves and whatever I could find, which happened to be bacon, onion, and cabbage. Ended up pretty good, but would have been better if I had cheese and/or milk. It was time to go grocery shopping about four days ago and I'm still trying to put meals together out of my pantry. Good news: any soup tastes better with fresh-from-the-oven biscuits.

lemon corn waffles

I really wanted something savory but due to a late-afternoon nap, didn't have the time. Decided to go the Breakfast-for-Dinner route: Lemon Corn Waffles from Vegan with a Vengeance with Strawberry-Mango-Papaya Sauce that I made from a couple bags of frozen fruit, sugar and cornstarch. Yumminess.

romano's macaroni grill

Tonight was my first night eating here. It was delicious. I had the Pollo Caprese with an add-on of broccoli. It came with an excellent capellini pomodoro. (Yummy tomato sauce, grape tomatoes, garlic, fresh basil and buffalo mozzarella.) The chicken? Meh, it was grilled chicken. We finished with a shared, super-uber tasty Lemon Passion. It was phenomenal. I have to give you the official description: Citrus cake soaked in sweet cream then topped with lemon mousse and whipped cream. And what did I drink with my tasty meal? What would be perfect paired with this Italian tummy-filler? 1/2 Diet Coke, 1/2 Sprite. I know, it's shameful. But I was so craving a soda and I hardly ever do. So I did. And I'm glad.

aviyal and chapathis

I was going to make pinto beans and collard greens but school ran a little late because the kids and I spent too much time remodeling my farm on Facebook's Farmville. Ridiculous. I hate when I do that.

Opened up Laurel's Kitchen and looked for stuff with potato and cabbage. Aviyal fit the bill. (A thick, curry-like mixture of vegetables, yogurt and coconut.) It was delicious (or स्वादिष्ट if you can read Hindi), but the kids didn't agree. The chapatis on the other hand (really just the Indian equivalent of a tortilla) were loved by all. One hour from start to eat.
